Police raided different areas of the city early hours yesterday following a mugging incident on Sunday afternoon and arrested three muggers with robbed cash and firearms.
Police recovered two locally made guns, five rounds of bullets, a machete and looted money worth Tk 13,000 from their possession and also seized a CNG-run autorickshaw used in the mugging.
The arrestees are Mansur Alam Rubel, 22, Hasan Ali Yasin, 26 and Mohammad Babul, 23, all residing at Aturer Depot area.
Sources said five armed muggers on a CNG-run autorickshaw intercepted a rickshaw carrying two people in front of Fossil CNG Refueling Station at Sholoshahar CDA Avenue around 5:00pm and snatched Tk 41,000 and two cellphones from them.
Locals, with the help of police team on patrol, chased the snatchers and managed to catch the driver Babul and the vehicle from Muradpur intersection.
After interrogating him, police raided Aturer Depot area under Bayezid Police Station and arrested the remaining two. The firearms were found at Rubel’s residence during a raid.
An arms case was filed with Bayezid Police Station while another case was filed with Panchliash Police Station in this connection, said Officer-in-Charge Nobojyoti Khisa of Panchlaish Police Station.
