Students, cheated by consultant firm United Foreign Admission which took money from them in the name of providing admission to foreign universities and employment abroad, have formed a committee to get back their money.
Announcing the committee at a press at the National Press Club on Wednesday, the students said the consultant firm’s owner Mahbub Hossain Mamun had cheated more than 300 students and got away with nearly Tk 15 crore.
The UFA, which took Tk 3 lakh to Tk 12 lakh from each of the students promising admission and jobs abroad, has shut down their Purana Paltan office and cell phones of the owner and all other employees are found switched off, they alleged.
Sohel Ahsan and Sajedul Islam, guardians of two of the cheated students, addressed the conference.
They alleged that Purana Paltan police station’s sub-inspector Alamgir, who investigated the complaint following a general diary filed with the thana, has also acted as an associate in the fraud.
Engineer Mahbub Hossain Mamun had also issued to some of the students cheques which were dishonoured by the bank, the speakers at the press conference said.
When asked over telephone, SI Alamgir said he knew Mamun as a journalist and had done his duty in investigating the case.
Refuting allegation of his involvement in the matter, Alamgir said all would be resolved after the investigation was completed.
The guardians of the students informed that UFA’s owner Mamun went to Australia last month.
