The public sector should adopt the best e-governance practices to increase its efficiency, and ensure transparency and accountability, speakers said at a discussion in Dhaka yesterday.
The e-governance initiatives, as the test cases across the globe, show results in better reduction of operational costs and expenses, they said.
Global financial giant Citibank NA organised the seminar on E-Governance: Sharing Best Practices & Success Stories towards Digital Bangladesh at Sonargaon Hotel.
In his keynote paper, Sanjeev Jain, head of Public Sector, Global Transaction Services of Citi Asia Pacific, focused on various dimensions of improved e-governance practices and highlighted a range of benefits the government can gain from better e-payment solutions, cross border payments, liquidity management, e-collections and supplier finance systems.
Energy Adviser to the Prime Minister Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury said: “With the increasing digitisation of almost every sphere of public life, there is an urgent need for the government sector to cope with the changing trends for offering better services to the people.”
Managing Director and Citi Country Officer in Bangladesh Mamun Rashid also spoke at the programme.
