Banglalink held a press conference on December 8 at Shilpakala Academy, Dhaka to announce the launch of “Jagoroner Gaan 2”, a follow up to the original “Jagoroner Gaan” published jointly with Jagoran Sanskritichorcha O Gobeshona Kendra earlier this year. Banglalink’s support of this collection of revolutionary songs, which rekindles the very spirit of freedom, is in line with the organisation’s continued endeavour to promote and preserve Bangladesh’s local culture and heritage, says a press release.
Music and poetry played a vital role in the movement for freedom ever since the Bengali people first raised their voices against repression, inequality and colonial domination. Music and poetry have always helped the Bengali people express their feelings and it is as integral a part of Bangladesh as is the history of revolution and nationalism of Bangladesh. At every step of our national movements, patriotic songs have inspired the mass people to fight against the odds and achieve victory.
Jagoran Sanskritichorcha O Gobeshona Kendra has painstakingly taken this initiative to catalogue and preserve hundreds of revolutionary songs that have accompanied the history of the Bengali speaking people. “Jagoroner Gaan 2” is a compilation of six compact discs to bring to the public a selection of timeless Bengali compositions that have stood the test of time. These songs will be covered by legendary Bangladeshi and Indian artistes, and will be promoted not only through the album but through various events.
Present at the press conference to announce “Jagoroner Gaan 2” were Ahmad Abu Doma, CEO, Banglalink; Shihab Ahmad, Director, Marketing of Banglalink; Faridur Reza Sagor, Managing Director, Channel i; M M Saleh Badol, Director, Step Media; Motiur Rahman, Editor, Prothom Alo; Sanaullah Lablu, Head of News and Program, ABC Radio and Mostafa Towhid Khan, convener, Jagoran Sanskritichorcha O Gobeshona Kendra.
In his remark Doma said, “Banglalink through their activities and attitude has always paid respect to the thousand-year-old heritage of Bangladesh, the uncompromising attitude of the Bengali people. Banglalink’s association with ‘Jagoroner Gaan’ is in line with these efforts. We are proud to step up for the second time to preserve a part of Bangladesh ‘s proud history.”
