A teenage girl was hacked to death by criminals yesterday only five days ahead of her marriage.
The incident occurred at village Kulbari under Harinakundo upazila.
VictimHazera Khatun,18, was daughter of Rafi Uddin of Kulbaria village under Harinakundo upazila. Hazera was an SSC examinee.
She was engaged and scheduled to be married on December 20 with a youth of a neighbouring village.
Officer-in-charge (OC) Jahangir Alam of Harinakundo police station said, at around 10:00 am yesterday Hazera got a cell phone call. She went to their betel leaf garden to talk to the unknown person. All of a sudden unidentified criminals hacked her to death on the spot and fled the scene instantly.
At that time Hazera’s father and brother were working on the other side of the betel leaf garden. Hearing screams of Hazera, they rushed to the spot and found Hazera groaning in pain, said the OC.
Hazera’s brother Shimul said, criminals threatened Hazera several times after the date of her marriage was fixed. She was set to be married with Milon Hossain, son of Abdur Razzak of Madhupur village under Sadar upazila on December 20.
