The Bangladesh Tourism Board has drawn up an elaborated programme to promote Bangladesh during the upcoming Cricket World Cup, to be held in February-March next year.
The board has already signed a contract with the ICC becoming its local partner, which will allow the organisation to promote the country through TV commercials and other advertisements during the showpiece event.
The Bangladesh government has allocated an amount of Tk 8.5 crore for this purpose and the BTB has paid the ICC Tk 7 crore as sponsorship money.
The rest of the amount will be spent on the promotional activities such as, setting up a web portal, printing different publications, holding fair on indigenous people, making sight-seeing arrangement for the touring guests, branding hotels and important places.
The ICC has refunded Tk 2.1 crore from the sponsorship money which, the board official said, will be used for producing TV commercials, special documentary on the experience of the people who have already visited Bangladesh, city beatification and fun zones.
The board apprised the reporters of its activities at a press conference held at a city hotel on Wednesday. Shafiq Alam Mehedi and Alimuddin Ahmed, respectively the chairman and the CEO of the Bangladesh Tourism Board, spoke, among others, at the press conference.
