Cricket lovers flocked to the entrances of “The City Bank” for the tickets of the World Cup Cricket Saturday evening though the sale of tickets was scheduled to start from 10:00am on Sunday.
All the premises of the branches of the bank declared earlier as ticket outlets saw hundreds of people taking position at the bank gates more than 16 to 17 hours ago.
Saiful Amin, a resident of the city’s Mirpur area, came to the gate of the Karwan Bazar branch of the bank at 5:00pm along with his friends.
“We are here to stay all night. We have come prepared to spend the night beside the road. We have brought cards to pass the time,” said Saiful.
There were people who came from the adjacent districts also. Saidur Rahman is one of them, who arrived at the capital form Comilla on Saturday morning.
“I want tickets for the Bangladesh-India match at any cost, I will sit at the gate and I hope to take the ticket as the first person” said Saidur, who is set to spend the night on the stairs of the Unique Trade Centre.
The Bangabandhu Avenue branch of the bank also saw the same scenario, which caused traffic congestion on the road.
Security personnel were seen arguing with crowd there. A public relation officer of the City Bank requesting anonymity said that it would need three or four minutes to confirm the sale of ticket as it will require a confirmation through online from India.
The security personnel’s were seen asking the crowd to stay clam, although the situation was getting more and more tensed.
The City Bank branches of Bangabandhu Avenue, Dhanmondi, Banani, Islampur Road, Karwan Bazar, Mirpur, Mouchak, New Market, Uttara and Imamganj are scheduled to sell the tickets in Dhaka city.
