The Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies on Monday blamed diplomatic failure of the government for the decreasing manpower exports in recent years.
The government’s initiative to export manpower by itself was but a part of an international conspiracy, BAIRA president Abul Bashar alleged in a written statement made at a news conference on ‘deadlock in the manpower export sector’ held at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity.
‘The government’s steps to export manpower by itself will only help the competitor countries,’ he argued.
According to the statement, the country’s manpower exports marked a 43.28 per cent decline in fiscal year 2009-2010 from that in the previous fiscal and a 17.79 per cent slide in 2010 calendar year from that in 2009.
Bashar claimed Bangladesh Overseas Employment Services Limited and the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training set up and assigned by the government to send manpower aboard failed to accomplish their respective assignments.
Since its establishment in the 1980’s the BOESL has sent only 17,571 workers, including 10,000 supplied by private agencies, abroad, he added.
The BAIRA said, ‘We, about 1,100 recruiting agencies, are passing days in uncertainty as during the last three years Bangladesh has lost a large chunk of job markets in Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Oman, and some other countries.’
BAIRA members also warned of launching a tough movement against the government, if it failed to find any solution to the problems.
BAIRA senior vice-president Riaz Ul Islam, vice-president Golam Mostofa Jamal, and secretary general Ali Hayder Chowdhury were also present at the conference.
