Priyanka Gandhi, the daughter of ruling Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi of India, will arrive Dhaka this afternoon on a two-day visit to observe Brac’s education programme.
On her arrival at 3:30 pm at the Zia International Airport on board a Jet Airlines, Brac Executive Director Mahbub Hossain, Director Ahmed Nazmul Hossain and high officials of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka will receive her.
From the airport, she will go to Savar to visit Brac pre-primary school at Charabag village and a primary school at Kumkumari village. Later, she will visit the training programme for schoolteachers at Brac Training and Resource Centre.
According to official sources, Priyanka will call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her Sudha Sadan residence in the evening.
Tomorrow, Priyanka, a trustee board member of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation in India, will discuss with the high officials of Brac on how Brac’s education programme can be implemented in India and what type of assistance Brac can provide in this regard.
Before leaving Dhaka Wednesday afternoon, she will pay a courtesy call on Brac Founder and Chairperson Fazle Hasan Abed.
Rajiv Gandhi Foundation Secretary Gyanendra Bagdaiya and Trainer Sonia Phillip will accompany Priyanka during her visit.
According to a press release of Brac, Priyanka’s brother and Congress Party General Secretary Rahul Gandhi visited Bangladesh in August last year and was impressed with Brac Education Programme. Rahul expressed his desire to introduce a similar programme in India. Priyanka’s Bangladesh visit is aimed at finalising the matter.
