Siddikur Rahman’s remarkable performance won him the title of the Grameenphone Bangladesh Masters after conclusion of the final day’s play at the Kurmitola Golf Club on Sunday.
Siddik completed an incredible wire-to-wire triumph to collect $13,125 (Tk 93 lakh) from the first ever Asian Development Tour tournament in Bangladesh.
Siddik posted (-3) under par with 69 shots in the final round. He finished with a cumulative score of (-19) under-par, 269 total shots for the tournament to run away with the title.
Milon Ahmed of Bangladesh secured the second position with an even-par, 72 shots in the final round, for a cumulative total of 281 shots, 12 strokes behind Siddik.
Amateur golfer of Bangladesh Mohammad Zakiruzzaman scored an impressive (-4) under par with 68 shots and Japanese Yosuke Tsukada, who ended the day with 74 shots, shared the third place with a total score of 284 shots.
‘I want to dedicate my victory to Bangladesh. This is the first time the Asian Development Tour has taken place here and it provided a great exposure to the professional golfers in Bangladesh,’ said Siddik.
Siddik got off to a strong start, sinking three consecutive birdies from the first hole before returning with three more birdies against the same number of bogeys.
‘This victory will help me prepare for the Asian Tour season and it will give me more confidence when the new season starts,’ he added.
Milon, who started his golfing journey with Siddik as a ball boy at the Kurmitola Golf Club, rued a cold putter as he closed with three birdies against three bogeys.
‘There are bigger things ahead for golf in Bangladesh and we are all inspired to follow the path of Siddik,’ Milon said.
