The 20th Annual US Trade Show 2011 started in the capital on Thursday with the hope for increasing bilateral trade and investment between Bangladesh and the United States.
Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith and US ambassador James F Moriarty addressed the inaugural ceremony presided by AmCham president Aftab ul Islam. AmCham executive director A Gafur and vice-president Khalid Hasan were also present.
American Chambers of Commerce, Bangladesh and the Embassy of the United States in Dhaka organised the fair at Sheraton Hotel in the city.
Speaking on the occasion, Aftab ul Islam said, ‘The 20th US Trade Show is the largest ever in the history of the show since 1991. There are many new companies which are participating in this show for the first time.’
He hoped that the show would help promote bilateral trade in the sectors like Information Technology and Pharmaceuticals and Infrastructure.
Seventy-five US exhibitors are showcasing their products and services at the show occupying 137 booths. The show, to continue till February 12, will remain open for public from 10:00am to 8:00pm everyday. The entry fee is Tk 20 per person.
But school students in uniform and other students with identity cards are exempted from the payment of entry fees.
