A 22-year-old girl suffered severe head injuries after two cars in a moment’s succession hit her as she was trying to escape police chase at Farmgate in the city last night.
The young woman is now fighting for life at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). According to locals and traders, she is a sex worker by profession.
DMCH sources said the condition of the unidentified girl is critical and she could not speak for her intense head wounds.
A witness said, “Some three to four girls were seen running through the pedestrians on the footpath to avert arrest as some policemen were chasing them around 9:00pm from Ananda Cinema toward the East.”
One of the girls started running on the road leaving the pavement and was knocked down by a car and moments later another car hit her head, said the bystander, adding that neither the two vehicles nor the chasing police stood there to take the girl to hospital.
Contacted, Tejgaon Police Station Officer-in-charge Mahbubur Rahman said he was not aware of any incident of police chase and even any accident of a girl who is now fighting against death.
