Different human rights organisations including Women Resource Network (WRN), Hill Women’s Federation, Marma Students Council and Sachetan Juba Samaj (Conscious Youth Society) formed human chains yesterday in the three hill-districts demanding immediate punishment of the criminals who allegedly raped an indigenous teen age girl on Wednesday night at Diamond Hotel in Bahaddarhat area under Chandgaon police station in the port city.
Dawnaiprue Neli, the convener of WRN, said to The Daily Star that she had talked to the victim at the Bandarban Sadar Hospital. She was suffering from severe pain, as she could not speak, she added.
“The victim is a student of class nine who never came to Chittagong. So she requested her father to visit Chittagong. Her father requested her uncle who is a vante (Buddhist mendicant) as well as her teacher to take her a trip. When they reached Chittagong it was evening, so they checked in Diamond Hotel of Bahaddarhat area.” Neli said adding that capitalising their helpless situation the owner and manger raped the girl alternately.
Chandgaon Police yesterday prayed for a 5-day remand to a Chittagong court against the Hotel owner, Md Alamgir, 32, and manager, Shiblee Ahmed, 30. The court passed an order to send the accused to jail and directed police to interrogate them in jail gate.
Meanwhile victim’s uncle, the vante, gave his statement under section 164 before the Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
The Investigation Officer (IO) Sub-Inspector Manir Hossain said to The Daily Star that he went to Bandarban on Saturday and talked to the victim and his family members.
“We have collected primary evidence. We have found the truth of allegation primarily and are waiting for medical report,” he said.
