Seven people, including a four-year-child and a university student, were killed and 48 others injured in separate road accidents in Bagerhat, Nilphamari and Gaibandha yesterday.
A correspondent from Bagerhat reports: Three people were killed and 15 others injured when a bus flipped on the Khulna-Mawa highway in Mollahat upazila early yesterday.
Police said the accident took place when a bus of Sundarban Paribahan turned turtle on the road after hitting a pedestrian in front of Mejher Gaula Filling Station at about 12:25am.
The unidentified pedestrian died on the spot.
A firefighting unit recovered the bodies of Rabiul Islam, 32, a supervisor of Sundarban Paribahan, and passenger Sajib, 24, a BBA student of Asian University, from inside the vehicle.
The firefighters also rescued the other passengers, who were trapped inside the bus.
Of them, the critically injured were taken to nearby Fakirhat Upazila Health Complex.
Our Nilphamari correspondent says: Three people were killed and 30 others injured as a Nilphamari-bound bus from Dhaka collided head-on with a Dhaka-bound bus of Maroon Enterprise in Dhalapir area yesterday morning.
Of the dead victims, Gulu, helper of a bus, died on the spot while Salehuddin, 34, the driver, and Sumon, helper of the other bus, were declared dead when they were rushed to hospital.
Salim Mia, a passenger of the Nilphamari-bound bus, said the driver was speeding dangerously to make up for a three-hour delay at Chandura in Gazipur.
Fifteen passengers were taken to hospital for treatment, six to Rangpur Medical College, six to Nilphamari Sadar Hospital and three to Shahidpur Hospital.
Our Gaibandha correspondent adds: A four-year-old child was killed and three others received injuries as a locally made three-wheeler hit them while they were playing in front of house at village Dakhin Burail on Gaibandha-Fulchari road yesterday morning.The deceased is Afika Khatun, daughter of Farhad Hossain, of the same area.
