A former director of National Security Intelligence (NSI) Wing Commander Mohammad Sahab Uddin, arrested on Saturday, was remanded to police for three days.
The CID officials appealed to the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Hannan for five days remand of the former NSI Director. But the Magistrate granted three days remand. He is now under CID custody for interrogation.
He was arrested from his Green Road residence in Dhaka on Saturday night for alleged involvement in the biggest arms haul of the country from CUFL jetty in Chittagong on April 02, 2004 last.
Former director (Security) of National Security Intelligence (NSI) Sahab Uddin, a wing commander of Bangladesh Air Force who joined the NSI on deputation, was arrested when former NSI Field Officer Akbar Hossain Khan who was arrested earlier in a confessional statement said he had hired seven trucks and a crane from Greenways transport agency, for carrying the arms and ammunition under the instructions of Sahab Uddin.
Akbar Hussain made the confessional statement before a magistrate on Saturday last. Accordingly, the CID raided his residence at Green Road at night.
After the arrest he was brought to Chittagong amid tight security yesterday. He was produced before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Hannan today.
Former NSI Field Officer Akbar Hossain Khan was arrested on April 19 last after the owner and manager of Greenways identified him as the person who hired the trucks and the crane. At that time he was taken under two days remand. But the CID officials failed to extract any information from him.
So, the CID appealed for fresh 7-day remand on April 26. And he had been quizzed at the task force interrogation cell in Dhaka since April 27 where he divulged a lot of information regarding the case. He also agreed to make a confessional statement before the magistrate. Then he was brought back to Chittagong for making confessional statement on Saturday where he disclosed the involvement of Sahab Uddin.
