It has been more than two weeks since the male blue-gold-macaw was separated from his family–the female partner and six chicks. Hopefully his lonely days are coming to an end soon.
Md Ikram Selim, owner of the male macaw named Prince, announced yesterday that he would bring him a new partner from Singapore.
Selim said he brought the male exotic bird from Singapore in 1997. He gave it to Abdul Wadud, a private zoo owner, to take care of it in 2010 when he [Selim] shifted to a new house, he said, talking to reporters at his Baridhara house through Skype.
Wadud brought a female partner for Prince, and the couple bred three pairs recently.
“Wadud was supposed to return the male bird. But when we wanted it back, he refused and said he could not let the birds be separated,” said Selim.
“We kept the male bird for 14 years before giving it to Wadud. We trained him to talk and fly. Now if Wadud claims we don’t have proper arrangements to rear the bird in my house, it will be a total lie. Prince is like one of us in the family.”
Wadud returned the male bird on January 3 upon an order of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court (CMM) in Dhaka.
Selim said Wadud’s refusal forced him to go to court. On January 11, the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court (CMM) finally ordered Wadud to give the female bird too to Selim along with a pair of chicks, he claimed.
