Healthcare professionals and representatives of the government and non-governmental organisations at a discussion on Thursday explored the possibility of collaborating with Sanofi for running its Access to Medicines programme in Bangladesh, particularly in the area of mental health.
Sanofi through its Access to Medicines programme has been contributing towards the United Nations Millennium Development Goal of providing access to affordable essential drugs in developing countries in collaboration with pharmaceuticals companies.
A majority of the world’s population does not have access to adequate healthcare, noted Sanofi France vice-president of Access to Medicines Robert Sebbag in his keynote paper presented at the discussion held at a city hotel.
French ambassador in Dhaka Michel Trinquier attended the session as the guest of honour.
Public health problems in developing countries are global challenges today and there is an evident inequity in access to healthcare between patients in industrialised countries and that in developing countries, Sebbag said.
He said Access to Medicines ensured adaptation of strategy and business model according to the need of patients, such as tiered pricing and no-profit-no-loss programmes.
