Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy has organised a two-day Loko-Sangskriti Utsab to give a boost to the traditional culture of the country beginning from today at the academy.
Authentic, rural singers, dancers and game participants in the folk arena from across the country have been invited to perform at the festival.
In addition, rural games and sports will be performed at the festival, informed the organisers at a press conference held on Thursday at the Shilpakala Academy.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy officials shared the details of the programme at the press conference.
Each day of the event will comprise of two segments. The first one will include folk games like Gollachhut, Haribhanga, Morog Lorai, Lathikhela, Rajju dance, Saatchara at the open space of BSA.
The second day will include seminars, folk dance recitals and music at the second floor of National Art Plaza. Well-known folk genres like bhawaiya, dhamail, sari gaan, kichchha gaan, gazir gaan, murshidi gaan, puthi path, along with famous numbers of legendary folk singers like Lalon Shah, Jalal Khan, Radharaman, Hasan Raja, Ukil Munsi, Bijoy Sarkar will be presented.
The festival has been arranged under an ongoing project-development on traditional culture and effectively connecting it to the international scene by BSA.
‘Tradition of our country, mostly folk tradition, is in a fragile state. Not to archive but to revive the tradition, BSA is trying to do its best,’ Soharab Uddin, director of Music and Dance department of BSA, told New Age.
‘The aim of the project is to promote our traditional culture to the international arena,’ he added.
Jute and textiles minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui will inaugurate the festival at 4.00pm today.
