The Bangladesh Swimming Federation (BSF) declared that they will organise the swimming events of the forthcoming Bangladesh Games by using the electronic scoreboard,
said Rafiz Uddin, general secretary of the BSF on Tuesday.
The Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) earlier announced that the two most important disciplines, swimming and athletics will take place without using electronic timing.
The general secretary of Bangladesh Athletics Federation, Ibrahim Chengis denied the suggestion and announced that his organisation is fully prepared to arrange the track and field events by utilising electronic timing.
After a lot of criticism, the BSF took a late move to repair the electronic scoreboard, which was established in the National Swimming Complex in Mirpur more than two decades ago.
Five or six starting blocks among the 10 were fixed just before the 2010 South Asian Games but their usage was in doubt this time around before Rafiz made the confident announcement.
`There has been a lot of criticism regarding swimming but we can announce that the outcome of swimming will be decided by electronic system. We have tried to repair the scoreboard after receiving financial
assurance from the BOA,’ said Rafiz.
The swimming events of Bangladesh Games will take place from April 21 to 24 with around 500 swimmers fighting it out for 42 gold medals.
