Speakers in a programme in Dhaka called upon the government to take step for making adequate allocation in the budget for children for protecting their rights.
There is allocation for women and poor, but no allocation for children in the budget, they said while addressing a press conference at Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University on Saturday.Development Studies Department of DU, CSID, CRJA and Save the Children jointly organised the press conference.
Pro-vice-chancellor of DU Shahid Akhtar Hossain, Mir Saukat Ali Badsha, MP, Asma Jerin Jhumu, MP, president of parliamentarian caucus on children, Abu Yusuf of
development studies department, Bangladesh director of Save the Children Birgit Lundbak and CSID executive director Khandakar Jahurul Alam addressed the press conference.
The government enacted the Children Act 2012. It is necessary to know how much money is needed for the proper implementation of the act.
Though there is a good policy for children, who comprise half of the country’s total population, there is deficiency in allocation of money for them, they said.
People don’t want separate budget, but adequate allocation for the children in the budget, they said.
The speakers also placed a number of proposals, which include taking initiative for formulation of a roadmap for undertaking projects for protecting the rights and growth of all the children in the country.
