An unholy alliances between a section of the politicians and businessmen is responsible for the unplanned urbanisation in the capital through grabbing land illegally,
said speakers at a roundtable on Saturday.
‘The tragic incidents like collapse of ‘Rana Plaza’ would be avoided if the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (City Development Authority) is strengthened enough to protect the land, canal and water bodies in the capital from grabbing,’ they said.
Institute of Governance Studies of BRAC University organized the roundtable in city’s BRAC centre.
The speakers said the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha has been failed totally to build a planned urbanization in the city, adding that ‘The authority is doing real estate business rather than regulating the urbanization in the city that’s why it couldn’t do real development work coming out from the political and business interest.’
BRAC University Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr Fuad Hassan Mollik, North South University Professor Dr ATM Nurul Amin, politician Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Eng. Abdul Awal and Prof. Roksana Hafiz of BUET, among others, took part in the discussion. Prof. Dr Nazrul Islam, chairman of the Centre for Urban Studies, presided over the discussion.
