The Japan International Cooperation Agency will provide Tk 100 crore in loan for repairing risky buildings of garments factories to minimise accidents.
JICA informed Bangladesh Bank about this decision during a meeting on Tuesday.
‘It will give this soft loan under its small and medium loan programme,’ said BB SME and special programmes department general manager Sukamal Sinha Choudhury.
He said an entrepreneur will be given highest Tk 10 lakh from this fund. A total of 250 garment entrepreneurs will get support from it, he added.
The loan will be allocated on the basis of inspection reports of the JICA representatives. The loan amount is repayable by 10 years with a grace period of two years.
