Syed Waqeel Ahad entertained the audience presenting as array of baul fusions from his album titled Waqeel-er Gaan on Friday at the
Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre in Gulshan.
He fused western instruments while presenting baul songs composed by leading bards like Fakir Lalon Shah and
Shah Abdul Karim in his signature style.Ahad’s harmonious composition of traditional and western instruments was enjoyable.
A well trained classical singer Ahad, who spent a substantial part of his life with the bauls living in different parts of the country, however, did not distort the original flavour of the traditional songs.
Skillfully he fused western instruments while presenting Fakir Lalon Shah’s numbers such as Se jane ar Ami jani, Achhe mojar karkhana and Haq naam, and Shah Abdul Karim’s two songs Keno piriti baraili re bondhu and Kunjo sajao go.
Ahad also presented fusion songs based on Indian baul Subal Das’ composition titled Samoy thakte porga diye mon, legendary musician Sachin Dev Burman’s classic number Borne gondhe chhonde geetite and Bhupen Hazarika’s popular number Manush manusher jonyey.
Audience also appreciated the singer’s self-composed numbers performed at the programme titled Bhabo mon khulia duar and O amar desh.
