D-8 countries vow to work together
Civil aviation authorities of D-8 (Developing Eight) member countries on Monday vowed to work together for ensuring aviation safety and security in the respective countries as per the guideline of the International Civil Aviation Organisation.
The pledge came from a meeting of high officials of civil aviation authorities under Working Group on Civil Aviation of Developing Eight at Hotel Sonargaon in the city.
D-8, also known as Developing-8, is an organisation for development and economic cooperation among Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey established through Istanbul Declaration of Summit of Heads of state and government on June 15, 1997.
Civil aviation and tourism secretary Khurshid Alam Chowdhury formally inaugurated the meeting while Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh chairman Mahmud Hussain chaired the session. D-8 WGCA secretary general Syed Ali Mohammad is also attending the two-day meeting among nearly 20 civil aviation officials of D-8 member countries.
The civil aviation secretary said Bangladesh government was keen to increase capacity and skill level of local civil aviation personnel through sharing experience of other D-8 countries.
He said Bangladesh believed that cooperation among D-8 countries would enhance safety, security, air transportation, training, maintenance, airport infrastructure, leasing, investment and low-cost carrier of all member states.
The CAAB chairman told BSS that Bangladesh aviation authority was planning to work with Iranian aviation industry.
