The state-owned Biman Bangladesh Airlines has finalised a deal with Germany-based airline distributor company Hahn Air for selling its ticket in more than 150 countries across the globe.
‘It means for the very first time, using Hahn Air e-ticket platform, that Biman can now interline with over 150 airlines around the world, and Biman tickets can now be sold in virtually every country in the world,’ Biman’s chief executive officer Kevin John Steele said in a statement on Wednesday.
Biman reported improvement in percentage on time and a good reduction in the average delays of its flights in May as the final punctuality of the month was 59.7 per cent compared with 44.5 per cent in the previous month.
‘It’s very close to our next target of over 60 per cent but still some way to go to our mid-term target of 80 per cent,’ said Kevin.
Biman has spent 24 years, more than half of its existence, counting losses since its formation 40 years ago because of rampant corruption, inefficiency and mismanagement.
Its annual loss rose to Tk 545 crore in the last financial year. The amount of loss was Tk 41 crore in 2009-2010 and Tk 190 crore in 2010-11. Biman might also incur loss in the outgoing fiscal year.
