Once popular comic actor Sirajul Islam Montu, famous for his appearance in the TV shows of 1980s Jodi Kichhu Money Na Koren, died at the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital on
Saturday night. He was 75.
He was admitted to the hospital on Friday following a
brain stroke, her elder daughter said.Sirajul Islam is survived by his widow and three children.
His namaaz-e-janaza was held after zuhr prayers on Sunday. He was buried at the Gulki Bari Graveyard in Mymensingh.
Sirajul Islam Montu had acted in films, teleplays and radio dramas. He got high recognition for his performance in films such as Chhutir Ghanta, Ashikkhito, Sujan Sakhi, Darpo Churno and Matir Ghar. He, however, got the nationwide popularity for his signature dialogue in Mymensingh dialect, ‘Koinchen dekhi’ [Well, please tell–] in the very popular TV show of 1980s titled Jodi Kichhu Money Na Koren, hosted by Fazle Lohani.
Sirajul Islam remained in isolation and pretty much stayed at his residence at Sanki in Mymensingh for the last three decades of his life. Last year, Hanif Sanket, who had also been a regular entertainer in Jodi Kichhu Money Na Koren, invited Sirajul Islam to perform in an episode of popular TV show Ityadi, hosted by Sanket.
‘He was lost from the entertainment world. After many years, he appeared in my show. We have lost a very talented artiste,’ Hanif Sanket said.
‘We had a very good relationship and he kept in touch with me even if he lived away from the entertainment world. He wished to make a comeback. He was a good soul. I pray he rests in peace,’ seasoned actress Dolly Zahur said.
Photo artiste Mohammad Saidul Islam in his documentary film titled My Men featured Sirajul Islam Montu along with other personalities from Mymensingh. ‘He talked about his life and work in the documentary,’ said Saidul Islam.
According to him, the documentary will be screened across the country soon.
