DANCE WORKSHOP
Children from different ethnic groups participate
Renowned dancer Tamanna Rahman guided children from different ethnic communities in a 10-day dance workshop ended on
Monday at BRAC Learning Centre in Uttara.
Twenty three children from nine communities including Santal (Rajshahi), Paharia (Rajshahi), Orang (Dinajpur), Pahan (Naogaon), Chakma (Khagrachari), Marma (Khagrachari), Garo (Netrokona), Koch (Sherpur), Cha-bagani (Habiganj, Sylhet, Moulvibazar)- participated in the workshop.
Under NGO BRAC’s ‘Education for Ethnic Children’ programme, Tamanna Rahman, along with some others, guided the participants of the ‘intercommunicative cultural exchange programme’.
‘In the exchange programme, where children shared their traditional dance forms with each other,’ Tamannna Rahman, told New Age.
‘Besides sharing their cultures among themselves, they were also taught Bangla songs and contemporary dance forms,’ she added.
Praising the quality of the participating children Tamanna Rahman said, ‘They are so talented. They are so spontaneous. Music and dance are in fact their part of life,’ Rahman continues, ‘It was a rare experience for me. I enjoyed working with them. And I’ve also learnt from them.’
‘BRAC has extended plan to work with ethnic children in future,’ a BRAC official Diploma Bonowary, who was also the music instructor of the programme, said.
