Russian Centre of Science and Culture (RCSC) and Bangladesh Astronomic Association have jointly organised a photography exhibition and a rocket model-making competition to mark the 50th anniversary of first woman astronaut Valentina Tereshkova’s space flight
The organisers had arranged an award giving ceremony for the 10 winners of rocket model-making contest at the RCSC on Thursday. Dr. Mofiz Uddin Ahmed, professor in Physics department of BRAC University and Alexander P. Demin, director of RCSC were present as guests to hand over the prizes to the winners.
The photography exhibition documents the life of Valentina Tereshkova, a Russian and the first woman to have flown in space.
A total of 27 photographs of Tereshkova, capturing moments of her childhood, her practice session, space mission, skydiving and her present days have been displayed at the exhibition.
‘I have always wanted to go on a space mission and these images fuel my imagination,’ Kazi Sohan, an electrical engineer, said after visiting the exhibition. ‘Tereshkova is an inspiration for many and if any woman from Bangladesh is inspired by this effort, it is a success for the organisers,’ Alexander P. Demin said at the award ceremony.
The exhibition will be open for all till 30th June.
