The students of Barisal Nursing College at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital held demonstrations on Sunday to press home their six-point charter of demands.
Their demands include introduction of a six-to-twelve-month internship after the completion of four-year BSC in Nursing , fixing stipend at Tk 3,000 for each student and allowing students to wear aprons on top of their uniforms during clinical practice, introducing masters level MSc nursing course, quota in BCS for employment and opening nursing faculty.
On Sunday, 260 nursing students of the college stopped the academic activities and held a siege programme on the college campus for four-hour from 9:00am, said Parvez Kabir, one of the demonstrators.
The demonstration rally was addressed by Ziaur Rahman, Rowshanara Khanam, Sima Haldar, Mahmud Hasan, Dipayan Sangma, Sohel Mia, Kaniz Fatema, Mitu Ahmed and others.
They said they would continue their agitation until all of their demands were met.
Mentionable, the nursing students are not allowed to wear apron on their uniform and per head stipend is Tk 850 monthly with a yearly raise of Tk 50 during their 48-month course without internship.
