DELAY IN ACSU REPORT
BCB calendar left in disarray
The Bangladesh Cricket Board’s annual calendar was left in total disarray after the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit of the ICC failed to submit its report on the alleged corruption in the Bangladesh Premier League during the world ruling body’s annual conference in London.
The BCB was waiting for the report to know the culprits involved in the scandal before declaring a fresh schedule of Dhaka Premier League, which has remained suspended for months.
‘It is in a very complicated situation,’ Jalal Yunus, chairman of the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis, told New Age on Saturday.
‘We thought we would receive the report today [Saturday] as the ICC conference is expected to be over but that is very unlikely, putting us in great deal of discomfort,’ said Jalal.
‘Probably there are few other names that had come up in their latest investigation. They [ACSU] are yet to interrogate them delaying the whole process of completing the report,’ he added.
The player recruitment programme and the commencement of the league, originally scheduled for June 23 and July 3 respectively, have been deferred due to unavoidable circumstances and fresh dates are expected after the arrival of the BCB president.
The DPL was originally pushed back from March this year because Bangladesh were touring Sri Lanka at the time before a players’ strike in late May forced the BCB to declare that the league would begin in early July.
Jalal added that the CCDM had sent the by-laws of the league to the clubs on Saturday, a reason for which the players’ recruitment got delayed earlier but without ACSU report it has become pointless.
