ONLINE TIN REGISTRATION
NBR receives huge response in first 3 days
The National Board of Revenue has received huge response regarding online registration for taxpayer identification number as around 10,572 individual and companies took new TINs and replaced old ones in the first three days after inception of the system on July 1, said NBR officials.
Among the taxpayers, 3,224 took new TINs while 7,348 replaced their 10-digit old TINs with 12-digit new ones, they said.
As many as 113 companies and firms also took TINs online, they said.
‘NBR did not expect such a tremendous response that we got in just three days. The taxpayers have accepted the online TIN registration process very positively,’ NBR member Rahela Choudhury told New Age on Thursday.
NBR will go for relentless campaigns across the country to motivate taxpayers to take TINs online and replace their existing ones as existing TINs will become invalid from January 2014, she said.
On July 3, the NBR began issuing TIN certificates online to make the system easy, reduce hassles of taxpayers and prevent issuance of fake TIN and its misuse.

Those who do not have access to internet will be able to get the TIN online by visiting income tax offices across the country, Rahela said.
Under the system, national identity card or passport number is made mandatorily required for an individual taxpayer while incorporation number of Register of Joint Stock Companies and Firms is needed for registered companies to receive TIN certificates.
Rahela said that people, who have found errors in their national ID cards, should correct the errors at Election Commission before applying for TIN online. Because, information provided by applicants for registration and registration of TIN online would be verified from the EC database.
The NBR has also opened a call centre and five service centres, including two in Dhaka and one each in Chittagong, Khulna and Rajshahi.
