The BCB dismissed fears that the Sylhet venue may not be ready to host the ICC World Twenty 20 in 2014 and plans to use it to host an ODI during the forthcoming home
series against New Zealand, said officials on Saturday.
The BCB had a co-ordination meeting with the National Sports Council at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium to
discuss the preparation of different venues for the ICC World Twenty 20, with top priority given to Sylhet.
Earlier, doubts were raised regarding the chances of completing work on the Sylhet venue before the ICC tournament as work stalled and the progress did not satisfy the ICC venue inspection team during their last visit.
‘We are working to inaugurate the stadium with the intention to hold a one-day match in the forthcoming New Zealand series,’ said Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan, chairman of the BCB grounds committee.
‘It shows the speed of the renovation work that is going on at the venue, so there should be no worry regarding the venue,’ he said.
The renovation work started a month ago at an estimated cost of TK 87 crores. The venue will be formally inaugurated by Finance Minister Abul Mal Muhith on July 8.
