The Dhaka Premier League clubs said on Sunday that they are unable to participate in the players’ recruitment programme and the league on the new
schedule given to them by the Bangladesh Cricket League.
The BCB recently said that the players’ recruitment programme will be held on July 25 and the league will start on August 29. However, the clubs responded that they cannot participate in the players’ recruitment programme before September.
‘We want to complete the players’ transfer by the first week of September and play later that month,’ said Manzur Kader, president of Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, after a meeting of
the Dhaka Premier League clubs.
Apart from Gazi Tank Cricketers, all Dhaka Premier League clubs participated in the meeting. The clubs were, however, unable to take a unanimous position on the grants that they were earlier promised by the BCB.
Clubs claimed they were each promised a grant of approximately Tk 40 lakh, but BCB president Nazmul Hasan recently denied it.
Manzur Kader, the unofficial leader of the clubs, said they could play in the league even without the grants, but not before September.
‘We wanted the money to develop our clubs’ infrastructures, not for our own groceries,’ said Kader.
‘Now if they don’t give that money, what can we do? We have been running the clubs for a long time without such grants, let’s put it that way,’ he added.
