The Athena Gallery of Fine Arts in the capital is currently housing a group exhibition titled Finding A Voice showcasing
paintings done by 16 aspiring artists.
The 25 day exhibition is an outcome of a workshop for emerging artists conducted by the gallery in March this year. The show comprises of 50 paintings mostly done in acrylic and a few in watercolour and oil on canvas.
Diverse themes such as the life of commoners, bounties of nature, feminine beauty, mysteries of human mind and other subjects have surfaced in the paintings that are mostly figurative.
Borna, a participant in the exhibition, in her acrylic on canvas titled Self Analysis of Contemporary Woman II, has depicted a huge magenta rose occupying the lower half of the canvas along with a woman’s lips matching the shade of the rose on the upper half of the frame. The intricately organised petals of the vivid pink rose are devoid of blemishes unlike the lips against a backdrop of coal black.
The simplicity and beauty of a rural woman combing her long, dark hair has been illustrated by Mizanur Rahman Fakir in his untitled acrylic painting.
One can feel the tranquility of nature in Nazuml Haque Bappy’s acrylic painting titled The Silence of Nature. Trees in the woodland with colourful birds perched on the branches have been depicted in the painting that has a huge moon in the backdrop.
In contrast with this particular painting highlighting nature’s serenity, Shohag Parvez’s painting Kalboishakhi demonstrates nature’s capacity to bring havoc on earth through portrayal of a devastating kalboishakhi storm.
Watercolour painting In Search of Natural Beauty in Sylhet is an artwork by Sumon Kumar Baidya, revealing the breath-taking beauty of the hilly areas of Sylhet.
The exhibition, which began on July 05, will remain open everyday except Mondays from 10.00am to 8.00pm till July 31.
