Jahanginagar University’s Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall is gripped by snakes scare as it has become a ‘habitat’ of the reptile. At least 20 snakes were killed in the last few days by the panic-stricken students.
Students alleged that no effective measures were taken to get rid of the problem despite the snakes had been creating trouble for a week.However, authorities said they had been taking initiatives to deal with the problem.
Snakes often enter different rooms, including the common room and toilets, said the students of the dormitory.
They said 20 snakes had been killed in the last week.
‘I heard a scream and woke up in the middle of the night and saw that a snake was sitting on top of my roommate,’ occupant of room 105, Jabed Sajal told the news agency adding, ‘I’m still too scared to sleep in my room.’
The associate professor of the zoology department, Abdul Aziz, identified the snakes as cobras saying ‘These are ‘binocellate cobras’. They are highly poisonous.’
The professor informed that these snakes have ventured out of the forest because they like warmth.
Hall provost Sukalyan Kumar Kundu said, ‘We’ve cleaned brushwood and weeds and sprayed carbolic acid in the area.’
