Bangladesh Football Federation president Kazi Salahuddin expressed his desire to retain the presidency of the South Asian Football Federation for the next four years.
Salahuddin was elected unopposed as SAFF president in 2009 and his four-year tenure will come to an end soon with the next presidential election scheduled for September 10 in Kathmandu, a day before the final of the 10th SAFF Football Championship.
Salahuddin yearns to keep hold of the post in order to fulfill his dream of arranging a SAFF Club Championship although he failed to introduce this competition in his four-year tenure due to a lack of sponsors.
‘I decided to stay at the SAFF office for another four years to make my dream of introducing the SAFF Club Championship true,’ said Salahuddin on Friday.
After taking charge of SAFF, Salahuddin introduced the Women’s SAFF Football Championship and different age-level SAFF Football Championships besides arranging the Men’s SAFF Football Championship on a regular basis.
‘Due to a lack of sponsors, we could not execute our plan to set up a club tournament but if I am elected again, I will be trying to organise the tournament regularly and try to introduce the tournament in the respective calendars of all member nations,’ said Salahuddin.
