It is a sad that most of the TV channels that air five to seven days’ special eid programmes did not chalk out adequate children specific Eid programmes in the previous years.
The scenario is, however, changing for better in recent years. From the schedule of Eid special programmes, it is evident that almost all the TV channels, state run and private, are airing at least one programme for children during the biggest festival of the country.
Most of the programmes for children’s entertainment comprise of various types of recitals by children, magic or puppet show and others.
ATN Bangla has a number of programmes on the first three days of Eid. The channel will air a programme titled Eid Uchchhash, with children participants on the first day of Eid at 9.15am. The channel will also air programmes like Nijer Fande Nije and Amra Korbo Joi respectively on the second and third days of Eid at 9.15am.

The programme will feature dance, songs, recitations, magic show and others where children have participated. In addition, the channel will air a special three episode programme titled Chhinno Mukul at 6.05pm on the first three days of Eid. Underprivileged street children will participate in the programme where they will be gifted new clothes and other items for Eid. The channel will also air musical drama Kardosh Kardosh at 11.30am on the fourth and fifth day of Eid. Another programme Mojar kichchha will be aired on ETV.
RTV will air children programme Elating Belating at 10.05am on the second day of Eid. Boishakhi TV will air special programme Hoi Choi Kichir Michir featuring stories and games played by children. The programme will be telecast on the first two days of Eid at 9.15am. Boishakhi will also air a special five episode Puppet show beginning on the third day of Eid.
Maasranga TV will air special Puppet shows at 9.00am every morning of the seven day Eid programmes. The channel will air entertaining puppet shows like Khuki O Kathbirali, Jonmobhumi, Lichu Chor. The channel has also produced a magic show Nikku Makasha at 9.00am on the sixth day of Eid.
SATV has produced a magic show titled Magic Mania which will be aired at 9.30am on the third day of Eid.
Programmes like these will obviously get children’s attention, and enhance their joy and happiness during the Eid days. However, in spite of this seemingly long list, programmes for children should get more emphasis from the TV channels.
