Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal struck a brilliant 75 from 62 balls but it was not enough to stave off St Lucia Zouks’ fourth defeat in five matches in the Caribbean Premier League on Saturday.
Jamaica Tallawahs rode on the back of two breezy knocks from Chris Gayle (40 from 31 balls) and Andre Russell (47 off 19 balls) to beat Zouks by six wickets at the Beausejour Stadium in St Lucia.
Tamim hit half a dozen boundaries and three sixes for his first half-century in the competition guiding the Zouks to 142-7 before Jamaica (146-4) knocked off the target in 17.3 overs.
With this innings, Tamim has now become the third highest scorer in the CPL, having scored 137 runs in five matches.
The Zouks are languishing at the bottom of the table in the six-team competition with just one win so far.
Meanwhile, Sakib al Hasan-inspired Barbados Tridents will face Guyana Amazon Warriors today in the Twenty20 competition.
Earlier, Sakib’s Tridents faced Tamim’s Zouks twice where the former won both the matches against the latter, by 17 runs and 83 runs.
In those two matches, Sakib scored five and 12 runs while Tamim made 22 and one respectively.
