The Bangladesh Football Federation will hold a two-day long open trial for the Under-16 squad from today ahead of the AFC U-16 Championship in Kyrgyzstan.
Bangladesh will play against Oman, Qatar and hosts Kyrgyzstan with the top team from the September 25-29 qualifying round moving into the final round. The trial, however, coincided with a two-day general strike called by Jamaat-e-Islami, making it difficult for many aspiring footballers to join it.
The BFF said they decided to hold the trial amid strike as youth team coach Rene Koster is scheduled to leave Dhaka for the Netherlands on August 14.
‘We had to fix the date on August 13 and 14 as Rene is scheduled to leave Dhaka on August 14,’ said BA Zubair Nipu, technical director of the BFF. ‘We have also decided to send the list of players to the Asian Football Confederation by August 21.’
