Jatiya Party (JP) presidium member and secretary general Ruhul Amin Howladar on Sunday said that JP would take part in an election where there would be participation of all political parties.
“If all political parties do not take part in next parliamentary elections, JP will not participate. JP does not believe in a one-sided election,” he told The Independent after its presidium members meeting. The meeting was held at its Banani party office with its chairman and former president HM Ershad in the chair.
Among others, presidium member Rowshan Ershad, MP, former prime minister and presidium member Kazi Zafar Ahmed, AKM Maidul Islam, MP, Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud, commerce minister GM Quader, MP, Golam Hibib Dulal, MA Sattar, Mojibur Rahman, MP, Kazi Firoj Rashid, Mojibul Haque Chnnu, MP, Advocate Salma Isalm, MP, Golam Kibria Tipu, MP, Syed Mohammad Abdul Mannan, MP and ABM Tajul Islam.
According to meeting sources, HM Ershad said that a kind of uncertainty has emerged about the participation of all political parties in the next national elections.
Awami league can hold one-sided election if BNP does not participate, sources further said.
Asked about the JP’s stance in the election, Ruhul Amin said, “We hope all political parties including BNP will participate in the next election. The political standoff has to be resolved through dialogue with the national leaders.”
The meeting also denied the news report on JP’s alliance with BNP, the sources said.
“We would take part in the election alone. We are talking with Islamic parties who believe in Islamic values to make an alliance,” JP secretary general said.
About JP’s stance with the AL-led grand alliance, he said, “There is no end of politics. The AL-led grand alliance was constituted ahead of the election. Two months still remain. We will decide whether we will stay with alliance or not after these two months. ”
However, Ershad has directed the party leaders to prepare for the next parliamentary election.
