Sylhet MC College students on Sunday formed a human chain in demand of immediate arrest
and exemplary punishment of the attackers on their fellow.
General student of the college formed the human chain in front of the college at around noon.
Speakers in a rally during the programme blamed the police for not arresting the criminals who hacked Ismail Hussain Sagar, 23, a second year student of the college.
They alleged that a group of local goons swooped on Sagar on July 17 night when he was entering his Akhalia residence from the home of a relative.
The miscreants at that moment looted Tk 20,000, a mobile phone and a gold chain from in possession of Sagar after hacking him with sharp weapons.
Sagar’s fellow students claimed that police were yet to make any effective effort for bringing the attackers to book, though Sagar’s father Abdur Rauf, also a freedom fighter, filed a case with the Kotwali police against nine named people in this regard.
The student representatives also cautioned that they would be forced to launch a tough movement programme, if the
police failed to nab the attackers without any further delay.
Freedom fighter Abdur Rauf, student representative Farhad, Sarwar, Parvej and Shahin, among others, addressed the rally.
Sagar’s father told the rally that Sagar was undergoing treatment at Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Sagar’s right leg near the thigh was already amputated as critical fractures were caused due to the attack, he said.
