International Crimes Tribunal-2 (ICT-2) on Wednesday fixed three witnesses to give deposition for the former BNP leader Abdul Alim.
The tribunal, headed by Justice Obaidul Hassan, also asked the defence to complete the cross-examination of investigation officer Altafur Rahman by Thursday. The lawyers of Alim earlier submitted a list of 3,328 witnesses to record their testimonies but the tribunal rejected the defence’s prayer following the objection of prosecution.
Defence had submitted a long list of witnesses only to protract the process of the trial, prosecutor Advocate Rana Dasgupta said.
Meanwhile, the tribunal-2 also directed the prosecution to submit the formal charge against Jatiya Party leader Syed Mohammad Kaiser by September 23.
It also allowed the investigation agency to interrogate him at his residence.
Earlier, the tribunal granted conditional bail to Kaiser on July 30.
The ICT-2 issued arrest warrant against Jatiya Party leader Syed Mohammad Kaiser on May 15, 2013 on the allegations of crimes against humanity during the liberation war.
The tribunal passed the order in response to prosecution’s appeal.
The tribunal directed the law enforcement agencies to execute its order and produce Kaiser before it within 24 hours of his arrest.
Law enforcers arrested him from the Apollo Hospital on May 21.
The tribunal sent him to jail when he was produced before the tribunal on the following day.
