Cultural Show At Chhayanaut
Tagore’s Europe visit presented
The Nobel Laureate Poet Rabindranath Tagore’s visit in the European countries and the impact of those visits in his literary works had been presented through a cultural show held on Saturday at the Chhayanaut auditorium in Dhanmondi.
The production titled ‘Arup Tomar Bani-Tagore in Europe’ directed by noted dancer/composer Sharmila Bandhopadhyay was comprised of music,
dance and recitation.The special feature of the show was dance recital performed by Nrityanandan artistes with narrations featuring Tagore’s experiences while travelling the Europe since his first visit in 1878 when he was only seventeen.
The dancers in their colouful performances also visualised the themes of the songs composed by Tagore being influenced by those visits, which were presented live by renowned and aspiring singers including Bulbul Islam, Laisa Ahmed Lisa, Sukanta Chakraborty, Semonti Manjari, Mostafizur Rahman Turjo and others.
Noted recitation artiste Bhaswar Bandopadhyay narrated Tagore’s experiences in Europe in Bangla while Uday Sankar Das read out the extracts from Tagore’s writings in English describing the beauties of Europe.
The show began with a synchronised group dance presentation with Bhaswar Bandopadhyay’s recitation of Tumi kemon korey gaan koro hey guni.
Subsequently, about twenty child dancers in colourful attires and with earthenware lamps came on stage and gave a spectacular performance with the same song.
The singers’ rendition of Pran bhoriye trisha hariye in chorus moved the audience, who greeted the singers with loud applause.
The chorus also presented Sundoro botey tabo synchronosied with a spectacular solo dance performance by Sudeshna Swayamprabha.
Eminent dancer Sharmila Bandopadhyay delighted the audience with her brilliant recital with the song Kar chokher choway haway rendered by Semonti Manjari, Shukla Paul Setu and Mahuya Manjari Sunanda.
The jam-packed audience enjoyed another group dance presented by Nrityanandan artistes with Bulbul Islam’s rendition of Tagore song titled Alo tomar pran-e.
‘The combination of dance, music and recitation in one production is a praise worthy initiative’, said Mizanur Rahman, a private service holder.
