Artist Rahima Afroz has played with an array of colours on her canvases displayed in a solo painting exhibition titled Symphony of Colour at Dhaka Art Center, Dhanmondi in the capital.
Afroz has depicted the freshness and vibrancy of nature through 33 abstract and semi abstract paintings, mostly in mixed media on canvas and a few prints.
‘In the paintings on this exhibition, I have tried to capture the different shades of mother nature,’ Afroz told New Age.
Fish 2 is one of the artworks done by collagraphy, a printing process. Striped fishes floating in the canvas smeared with numerous shades of brown arrest the attention of the viewers.
A mixed media painting, the tenth in the series titled Composition, reveals an asymmetrical vase with flower blossoms appearing against a partly crimson and partly deep blue backdrop. Vertical strokes in shades of white resembling a curtain on the left corner of the textured canvas depict an interior arrangement in a living room. The sixth painting in the composition series also demonstrates a vase with a single, elongated leaf, creating a sense of loneliness. Upon careful observation, one can make out withering flowers with their ends drooping, as if sulking in dismay. The background is dominated by a light shade of white and grey contrasted with a bright, red foreground.
Various shades of bottle green, scarlet red, lilac pink with subtle hints of blue overlap each other harmoniously as they smudge the canvas in the fourth painting of the series titled Nature.
Inaugurated on August 23, the exhibition will remain open for everybody from 3:00 to 8:00pm till August 29.
