Low-cost Malindo Air, which has recently launched its daily flight on Dhaka-Kuala Lumpur route as part of its international route expansion, aims at attracting Bangladeshi labours working in Malaysia and the tourists visiting both the countries, its executives said.
‘One of our priorities is to provide low-cost transportation to the Bangladesh migrant workers,’ Malindo Air public relations and communications director Raja Sa’adi Bin Raja Amrin told New Age in Malaysia recently.
As Bangladesh has become one of the tourist destinations, Raja said they were getting both in and outbound tourists to Bangladesh.
Using Boeing 737-900ER aircraft, Malindo Air has inaugurated its daily Dhaka-Kuala Lumpur flight on August 28 in the presence of civil aviation and tourism minister Faruk Khan.
Addressing the inaugural flight at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, Faruk said, ‘The low-cost flight will help our migrant workers save their hard-earned money.’
About six lakh Bangladeshis — both documented and undocumented — now live in Malaysia.
Sa’adi said they wanted to make comfortable the journey with their better sitting arrangement on flight with offering extra legroom than other airlines provided.
He also said the airline would very soon introduce Chittagong-Kuala Lumpur route.
A Bangladeshi migrant worker living in Kuala Lumpur, Mohammad Hanif, during travelling with the airliner, said the travel was comfortable.
Apart from the in-flight hospitality, Sa’adi said, ‘We will introduce Wi-Fi connection in flight very soon to attract executives and officials.’
The Malindo Air executive said they would launch two new routes — Dhaka- Kuala Lumpur- Jakarta and Dhaka- Kuala Lumpur-Bali — from September 23 and September 26 respectively targeting the tourists in Bangladesh.
Malindo Air has set the ticket price for a round trip at Tk 21,000, including all taxes.
