Aranyak Natya Dal is currently occupied with its next production Patongo Katha, depicting the Rana Plaza Tragedy in Saver.
Patongo Katha will be the 52nd production of the troupe.
Written by Rashid Harun and directed by Mamunur Rashid, the play will portray the heart-wrenching incidents that took place after the collapse of Rana Plaza, an eight-story commercial building, on April 24, 2013; claiming a death toll of 1,129 people and leaving another 2,500 injured.
The play is focusing on how numerous unfortunate garment workers were trapped in the debris striving for survival. The production also will illustrate the reaction and the role of common people, politician, media and others in the tragedy.
About forty artists of the troupe including Mamunur Rashid, Momena Chowdhury, Tamalika Karmokar will perform at the play having Dhali-Al-Mamoon as the set designer and Warda Rihab as the choreographer.
The writer of the play, Rashid Harun, told New Age that his aim was not to portray the building collapse but to reveal the positive incidents that took place after accident. ‘I wanted to show the united feeling that brought thousands of commoners to take part in the rescue mission, and also how the whole nation mourned for the victims in the collapse. Through the play, I wanted to reveal that fact that goodness still survives within the people of the country,’ added Harun.
About the play, Mamunur Rashid, who is also the chief of the troupe, told that through the play, Aranyak wants to protest against the rich oppressors who exploit the poor only because of their monetary gains. ‘Besides, the play is a kind of tribute from us to those who lost their lives in the tragedy,’ also said Rashid.
‘However, most importantly, I want to document the tragedy through the production. After many years, the people will probably forget the incident but the play will go on telling the story,’ shared Rashid. Rashid further informed that he is hopeful to premier the play sometime during the end of this month.
