The government has lifted ban on salt import till September 22.
Each mill owner is allowed open letter of credit for the import of up to 10,000 tonnes of crude salt, said an recent order of the Office of the Chief Controller of Imports and Exports.
The importers will have to ensure the shipping of the imported salt within 30 days after opening the LCs.
Bangladesh Bank on Wednesday issued a circular to the banks informing that they would be able open fresh letters of credit for salt import till September 22.
As per conditions of the OCCIE, the authorised dealer banks will have to provide the import related documents to the BB instantly, after which the central bank will send the documents to the OCCIE within 24 hours after opening of the LCs.
