A three-day bonsai exhibition and competition was launched on Friday in Rajshahi city aimed at making the bonsai culture popular.
The Rajshahi Bonsai Society arranged the exhibition marking its 14th founding anniversary at the conference hall of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry.The Rajshahi city mayor-elect, Mohammad Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul, unveiled the exhibition and addressed the inaugural session as chief guest with the Rajshahi Bonsai Society president, Sayed Mahfu-e-Touhid Tutu, in the chair.
The Rajshahi Bonsai Society vice-president, Ghondokar Momtaj Begum, during inaugural speech, highlighted the aspects of bonsai culture and its positive impact on society.
Abu Saleh Mohammod Fattah, a bonsai artist, said the bonsai practice was an art form that provides mental food and added that it was playing a vital role in reducing social crimes.
The Rajshahi Bonsai Society also distributed prizes amongst the best bonsai-parishioners in the city.
Some 50 bonsai-parishioners are attending the exhibition with 180 bonsai of 36 species, which will remain open to the visitors from 10:00am to 8:00pm.
