Ganga-Jamuna Theatre Fest
Two local, an Indian troupe will stage plays today
Two local and one Indian theatre troupe will stage plays at the three venues of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy today as part of the ongoing Ganga-Jamuna Theatre Festival.
Indian troupe Rittik will stage Diba Ratrir Kabya at the National Theatre Hall, local troupe Mohakal Natya Sampraday will stage Shikhondi Katha at the Experimental Theatre Hall and another local troupe Shunyan will stage Lal Jomin at the Studio Theatre Hall.
Rittik’s Diba Ratrir Kabya, adapted and directed by Goutam Roy Chowdhury from Manik Bandopaddhyay’s famous novel having the same title, explores complicacies in human relations through the love story between a couple.
Mohakal Natya Sampraday’s experimental production Shikhondi Katha, written by Anan Zaman and directed by Rashid Harun, features the sufferings and struggles of the transgender people in the society. The play emphasises on ensuring basic rights and paying due respect to the people with gender disability.
Shunyan’s monodrama Lal Jamin, written and directed respectively by Mannan Hira and Sudip Chakroborthy, zooms on the war of independence in 1971 and deviation from the spirit of the war after the independence though the character of a Birangana.
