A soothing ambience overwhelmed the audience as soon as Mita Haq, in her unique melodious style, started presenting an evergreen Tagore song Tumi ki keboli chhobi on Thursday at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre.
The melody and unique lyric of the song in Mita’s soulful voice modulation, indeed, created such a spell on the listeners that many of them were found shaking and spinning heads slowly with the tune as if they were taken to a different world, far beyond this hectic city.
Perhaps the image of someone they really miss appeared on the closed eyes of them as the singer sang ‘haay chhobi shudhu chhobi’ in the mid-stave of the song.
As she concluded the song mourning for the image, which is more than a picture, with passionate voice, the feeling was great.
Truly eminent Tagore singer Mita Haq captivated the audience in her hour-long show presenting some evergreen romantic numbers from Tagore’s golden treasure.
A lover’s heartbreaking sentiment was reflected authentically in Mita Haq’s presentation of the melancholic Tagore number Sei bhalo sei bhalo.
It was not, hoverer, a show featuring sentimental numbers. The skilled singer with equal mastery moved the audience presenting some love songs such as Priyotomo aaj bujhi, Jete jete ekla pothe and Jete dao gelo jara.
She also presented romantic numbers highlighting the beauty of the nature such as Aji jhoro jhoro mukhor bador dine and Magher kole kole.
Mita Haq wrapped up the show presenting Aji jhorer rati. A satisfied audience Rawshan Ranu said, ‘Mita has a sweet melodious voice, which is perfect for Tagore’s romantic numbers.’
‘Her selection of songs was wonderful. I wished the show continued for a longer time,’ Rashed Hasan, another audience said.
Eminent singer Mita Haq received training from maestros such as the late Wahidul Huq, Sanjida Khatun and Ustad Mohammad Hossain Khan. The highest grade artiste of the Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television, she has got popularity as a Tagore singer in India too. She has 14 solo Tagore albums released from India and 10 music albums from Bangladesh.
